Bellagio is often described as the “Pearl of Lake Como” because of its setting at the edge of the famous lake where the lake divides into two parts. The town is so famous that tourists mostly skip “Como” which is the main town around Lake Como Italy and go directly to Bellagio and the reasons are also quite obvious. It is a perfect town for getaways, relaxation and to feel close with nature.

Bellagio is often described as the most beautiful town of Italy by those who might not have seen the towns of Amalfi coast or the 5 villages of Cinque Terre. Although, the town receives a lot of visitors, but you will hardly find long ques outside the main attractions. As we said, the town is about relaxation and tourists come here with a mindset to enjoy the peaceful and calm atmosphere. The villas of Bellagio are famous in the whole world because of the breathtaking scenery around them. The town is located at the point where the Lake Como divides so it provides amazing views of the two sides of the lake from different points.

The picturesque town is also a wonderful destination for a day trip as it is small and compact and most of the attractions are located within the walking distance. It is also a popular ferry stop at the Lake Como so many visitors of Lake Como also end up here anyway. Most of the streets are for pedestrians only and are perfect for romantic strolling. There is romance everywhere in the atmosphere, whether you are a couple of a solo traveler like me, you will fall in love with the vibes and the ambiance. Beautiful and narrow cobblestoned streets will lead you from waterfront to the uphill through the town. From uphill, you will enjoy picture perfect views of the town down till Lake Como. You have to climb the Salita Serbelloni which is one long staircase to reach the via Giuseppe Garibaldi, which is the main road.

Walking is the most famous attraction in Bellagio because it takes around 1 hours to go through the whole town by foot. You will witness spots where you cannot resist taking pictures for your Instagram. The main street of the town, Giuseppe Garibaldi is also the most popular shopping destination filled with boutiques, shops, restaurants, and cafes. You will find almost everything you need from this busy street of Bellagio. There are several tiny streets connected with the main street, that take you to the Lake Como. Some of these tiny streets have stairs and almost all of them are full of shops and cafes.

The Basilica of San Giacomo is a beautiful Romanesque church around the via Giuseppe Garibaldi that was built in the 11th century. The Villa Melzi is a very famous tourist attraction in Bellagio and used to be the summer residence of Francesco Melzi d’Eril, who was the vice president of the Napoleonic Italian Republic that was founded in 1800’s. The villa is not open for the public, but the surrounding gardens are. These beautiful gardens are filled with walking paths, exotic plans and park benches that are perfectly placed facing the lake for the purpose of enjoying the beautiful views while seated.

These gardens are highly famous for lovely strolls under the shades of trees, in the pleasant fragrance of flowers with the amazing views of the Lake Como. These gardens were designed by Luigi Canonica and Luigi Villoresi. You will find large number of camellias, rhododendrons, and azaleas in this fine park of Bellagio. There is an entry fees which helps to maintain the artistic, cultural, and historical elements of the gardens.

Villa Serbelloni is located towards the south of the center of Bellagio. This villa is now a world-famous luxury hotel which was built in the 15th century. The hotel is also surrounded by large gardens which are on top of the hill above the hotel. These gardens are also very beautiful, but they are not open for the public. The only way to visit the gardens is to book a guided tour and you can enjoy the beautiful plants, sculptures, small caves, and water fountains.

Punta Spartivento is a wonderful park located on the northernmost point of Bellagio where you will find yourself in the middle of the three branches of the lake. From here, you can view the towns of Varenna, Menaggio and many other small villages around the shores of Lake Como. This spot is very famous among photographers who want to take pictures of Bellagio and the surroundings from the top.

Pescallo is located on the opposite side of Bellagio and is small fishing village. While Bellagio has many tourists, Pescallo is mostly quiet and less crowded. This town is a superb getaway from the busy streets of Bellagio to have a romantic and peaceful time with delicious fresh seafood. Beside the food, the village is also very famous for sports activities like kayaking and water skiing and the views are also very nice especially of the small fishing boats at the shore.

It only takes 15 minutes to walk from Bellagio to Pescallo by a pedestrian walkway which is on the southern side of the town. You will find the signpost of “Pescallo” easily to determine if you are on the correct path.

Lido de Bellagio

Lido de Bellagio is the famous beach club of Bellagio town which is located on the waterfront next to the Melzi Gardens. This is a great place to take a break from heat and to enjoy swimming. You can also book private boat tours from here which can show you around the Lake Como.

If you are around Lake Como or are in Bellagio which is also around Lake Como, then the tour to this wonderful lake is a must. You just cannot miss the tour if you are here or else you would regret not doing it. By far cruising around Lake Como has been rated as the best experience in this area by many tourists.
