The Great Gatsby Novel Book

I would review this book in very simple words. I wanted to read this book from a long time specially when the movie The Great Gatsby was released. I watched the movie as well and I liked it very much. Books however offer much more than movies. More details and more relatable incidents.

Author's Introduction

The book is written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It is a truly brilliant and impressive masterpiece. The book is written in such a nice way that you can´t stop reading it, because of the language and the presentation

The Story of Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is a story of a person who dreams of getting back the love of his life. The story is narrated by his youthful neighbor, Nick Carraway, who is probably the only honest and decent person in the story.

This is a splendid tragic love story set in the eastern United States just after world war I. Fitzgerald has shown us an America that is on the verge of a moral breakdown. This devastation is shown by the portrayal of characters who are hungry for their own comforts and pleasures and have no focus on moral values. They are just living their meaningless lives in a lavish style.

The most fascinating character of the story is Jay Gatsby Himself depicting the internal fight of a man who has a great charismatic personality. But as the story reveals more, he is discovered as a person with flaws and sadness. He is also an example of a person who has had to earn the silver spoon to stand confidently among those who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

He throws extravagant parties and even doesn’t know personally many of the people who he invites. Finally, we come to the understanding that he is in love with Nick’s Cousin, Daisy Buchanan, who was Jay’s girlfriend in the past. She is now married to rich Tom Buchanan which complicates this story. Jay Gatsby has acquired his wealth by whatever means necessary only to win his love back from Tom and to marry her.

The wealth didn’t matter to him, the parties were ridiculous flares of vanity, intended with one thing in mind: to attract Daisy’s attention and get her, curious and within his reach.

In contrast, Tom is a beast of a man, he is an ex-champion footballer, relentless and cruel. Most notably, he has cheated on Daisy many times and has a mistress, Myrtle Wilson.

Tom belongs to an extremely wealthy mid-western family. Money is not a problem for him. Daisy might have the spark of money, but Tom has the attitude and arrogance of his old inheritance.

When Tom learns of Daisy’s disloyalty and Gatsby, he goes into typical defensive mode in order to preserve his wife, his asset and his marital property.

As the story flows, Nick Carraway, observes, not just a battle between Good and bad, but a fight between two degrees of evil.

Conclusion

The book is Simple, elegant and perfectly decorated as Fitzgerald wanted it to be. I don’t think one reading is enough to fully value why it is considered a modern classic and a masterpiece
