I heard first time about Stephen Hawking while watching a famous tv show called Big Bang Theory. In this show he appears in person and in references many times. So, I was already familiar with the name. Then the book’s name “Brief Answers to Big Questions” is very interesting and attractive, specially from a person who is well known for his great work in science.
Stephen Hawking is a very famous name. He was an English theoretical physicist and cosmologist who is considered as one of the most brilliant scientists the world has seen. He made huge contributions to physics and tried to share his discoveries with everybody. His books “Introduction to Cosmology” and “A Brief History of Time” are also worth mentioning and were best sellers. Moreover, Hawking was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and he did most of his research while battling ALS. This makes his accomplishments even more remarkable and Inspirational. Brief Answers to the Big Questions is his last book.
Brief Answers to the Big Questions Review
The book is easy to read, Hawking’ s natural humorous style makes reading and learning from it a delight. The descriptions on this book allowed me to understand the basics of even the most complicated theories easily. The book can create a difference of opinions while reading. For example, when he mentions about galaxies drifting apart for a possibility of a formation of new galaxy. It occurred to me that they might be drifting apart as trigger the end of times. Well It depends on your perspective and If you like to agree with him or not. But overall It is a very easy book to read and understand.
Stephen Hawking’s Points of Discussion in this book
Some of the big questions the book talks about are as under: –
Is there a God?
How did it all begin?
Is there other intelligent life in the universe?
Can we predict the future?
What is inside a black hole?
Is time travel possible?
Will we survive on Earth?
Should we colonize space?
Will artificial intelligence outsmart us?
How do we shape the future?
He has answered to all of them in the simplest way with brief explanations. The segment on black holes is perhaps the most detailed and it is also a bit complicated in parts. Stephen Hawking has contributed the most in this area of work, and I think that is why this portion is more detailed. The discussion is very interesting – How do black holes behave and what goes inside? Do they also collect and retain information?
Stephen Hawking has also addressed climate change and talks about humans being very irresponsible towards the planet earth which is their home and only planet to survive. The other sections are equally interesting as well
I would love to recommend this book to many. It is not only a great read but a very informative book which makes you think about these things either his way or your own way. I think anyone who will read this book will learn something new or will start seeing something with a different perspective.
